The Opposition View

Following yesterday’s goalless draw at Rotherham, here are some views from Millers’ manager Mark Robins and a few of their fans.

Robins told his club’s official website: ‘I was happy with the point. We made it hard for ourselves at times when we made one or two errors, but aside from that I thought we were the better side in the second half.’

‘After losing our previous two home games, it was important that we didn’t lose today. Looking at the game overall I think a draw was a fair result and I was pleased with our performance.’

The Rotherham fans also seemed happy with their point. They weren’t overly impressed by our style of play, but they were complimentary about our noisy support.

The following extracts are taken from ‘Millers Mad’ and ‘Football Forums’.

‘A fair result all told. The first half was dire from both sides, but after the break both sides must have had a rollocking because the teams made it an end to end, thoroughly enjoyable 45 minutes, with chances at both ends, the most notable being a fine save from Andy Warrington when Matt Harrold was clean through.
A word of praise for the fantastic Wycombe fans, who made DVS actually have some atmosphere for the 1st time. From 1st whistle to last, they made a terrific noise in support of their team.’

‘After the Macclesfield game I said that I reckoned our performance there wouldn`t be dissimilar to many of Wycombe`s wins this year, even if it was a bit dull and sluggish. Having seen them today, I`d say I was right. We are, actually, very similar to Wycombe, and Darlington, and Brentford. All teams who are strong defensively and, despite lacking the same firepower as, say, Rochdale, win games based on a solid spine and the ability to nick the odd goal. Ok, we`ve never mastered the smash and grab like Darlington have, and we`re not quite as defensively sound as Wycombe (6 goals conceded in 14 games, that`s just ridiculous) but generally we`re similar, and if not for the deduction would be in the top 7 by May just as they will be. Their fans were Excellent. For a small number they were very lively, as they were at Millmoor last year on United Rotherham day.’

‘Was my first time at the ground today and what can I say. First of all I know we are not there through choice, but the ground, even though it’s comfy it is an appalling place to hold a football game. If you sit at one end of the ground you cannot really see whats happening at the other with the decisions etc. The atmosphere is like a morgue and it doesn’t inspire people wanting to make a noise. All in all, if Wycombe are top of the league, Rotherham will more than hold their own and will win or draw more than they lose, but this division is poor on quality’

‘Thought the Wycombe fans had fun and created some noise, I would love to get the same going at DV from our own supporters.’

‘They were the loudest crowd I can remember since Leeds Utd in the league cup a couple of seasons back. Quite an achievement considering what they get served up on the pitch.’

‘Well that was about as interesting as watching paint dry. Fair play to Wycombe, they came for a point and we duly gave it to them.’

‘I know there were only a few boos around at full time, but the Millers’ players did not deserve that. Put things into perspective. This was a very difficult game against a very well organised outfit in Wycombe. In my opinion they are the best side I have seen this season and will be champions of this division quite easily. There is obviously a reason why they are the only unbeaten league team in the country.’

‘Their midfield ran the show, especially their No 8, he was the one who controlled their play. Overall a well earned point today, pity our midfield wasn’t the same, they went missing a lot today, maybe we need a strong midfielder bringing in.’

‘Wycombe defend and get men forward quickly and look a very fit unit, I was fearing the worst with 10 minutes left at 0-0 with their record of late goals this season.’

‘Wycombe were a good outfit, tactics very clear and very well worked.’
