In the wake of yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Rochdale, here are some views on the game from Dale’s manager Steve Eyre and a few of their fans.

The Rochdale boss was grateful to his two-goal striker Ashley Grimes.

“It’s great to have a predator on the field like Ashley,” he said. “The winning goal may have been route one, but we’ll take anything and I’m sure Gary Waddock would have taken a goal like that to win it, route one or not.”

Highlighting the importance of beating the teams around you, Eyre said: “We put a bit of a squeeze on the lads this week, and without branding it a must-win game, we underlined the fact that we really wanted to put some pressure on, earn three points and put in a performance to make our supporters proud.”

“We came out of the blocks ever so fast, ever so good, and were unfortunate to go 1-0 down, but the way we bounced back…. I think we’ve got good characters within the team and good quality.”

“We bounced back, we levelled up, and then we went on to win it,” said Eyre.

The Dale fans took the victory in their stride.

“Three points was the be all and end all today and we thoroughly deserved them. We looked head and shoulders better than Wycombe.’

“Great result. As long we’re taking points off those around us we’ll do just fine.’

“Dale are playing entertaining football at times, but I’m not sure there’s any solidity at the back and there are much better sides than Wycombe to take advantage of that. We look good enough to survive though, and that’s October off to a great start.’

“We’ve started two games 4-4-2 and we’ve won them both. The players look much happier playing it and it suits them, Grimes especially.’

“Then came the tinkering and the change to 4-3-3. Why change what’s working and invite the opposition to attack us. In the end, it nearly cost us dearly.’

“The game was superb until we went 4-3-3, and how we got away with it is only down to crap play from Wycombe.’

“We should have been 4 up at half-time. Going forward we played some lovely stuff. I loved our winner. A minute earlier, Kean over-hits a goal kick and gets unwarranted dogs abuse, he then hits virtually the same ball and we score from it. It’s a funny old game.’
