The Opposition View – Rochdale

In the wake of yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Rochdale, here are some views on the game from Dale’s manager Steve Eyre and a few of their fans.

The Rochdale boss was grateful to his two-goal striker Ashley Grimes.

“It’s great to have a predator on the field like Ashley,” he said. “The winning goal may have been route one, but we’ll take anything and I’m sure Gary Waddock would have taken a goal like that to win it, route one or not.”

Highlighting the importance of beating the teams around you, Eyre said: “We put a bit of a squeeze on the lads this week, and without branding it a must-win game, we underlined the fact that we really wanted to put some pressure on, earn three points and put in a performance to make our supporters proud.”

“We came out of the blocks ever so fast, ever so good, and were unfortunate to go 1-0 down, but the way we bounced back…. I think we’ve got good characters within the team and good quality.”

“We bounced back, we levelled up, and then we went on to win it,” said Eyre.


The Dale fans took the victory in their stride.

“We should have been 4 up at half-time. Going forward we played some lovely stuff. I loved our winner. A minute earlier, Kean over-hits a goal kick and gets unwarranted dogs abuse, he then hits virtually the same ball and we score from it. It’s a funny old game.’
