Scott Burns of the Daily Record have named Wycombe Wanderers as one of the clubs interested in the 23 year old Josh Edwards, currently playing at Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Championship.

The left-back has notched up 2 goals and 6 assists in 34 League Game, making 1.6 key passes per match and making 26.7 passes per game at a 65% success rate. More impressively, he notches up 6.0 interceptions, 10.5 ball recoveries and 2.7 clearances per match, and is rated as the 17th best player in the Scottish Championship. Below you can see a comparison of statistics between Edwards and current starting left-back Luke Leahy, with Luke better offensively in terms of goal contributions, but Edwards better at defensive contributions such as duels won, ball recoveries and interceptions per match. Dunfermline took up the option to extend his contract for another year amid interest from a number of teams south of the border. Barnsley failed in a six figure bid in the Winter Window, whilst Oxford United and Blackpool join the Chairboys in interest in the fullback. Dunfermline now face a decision over whether to sell now, or risk losing Edwards on a free transfer next season.

The Chairboys will likely seek a new left back, having confirmed that Wycombe Stalwart Joe Jacobson has left the club following 10 years and 400 apperances at the club, whilst the talented but injury prone Kane Vincent Young has not been offered a new contract having only made 17 League One appearances this season. Nigel Longwijk, who also played the role, has returned to Wolveerhampton Wanderers at the end of his loan, and while Luke Leahy has played 20 League games as a Left-Back, looks more likely to feature as a midfielder in the long term. A first choice left-back could be one of the major spots for the Chairboys to strenghten as the club target evolution, not revolution, and an out and out left-back to play in the prefered 4-2-3-1 will likely help the team continue to improve and fight for its long term ambition of fighting for promotion to the Championship.
