Following yesterday’s defeat at the hands of Lincoln City, here are some views on the game from Imps’ manager Peter Jackson and a few of their fans.

Speaking to the BBC, Jackson said his team had been ‘excellent tonight’ and revealed that he had asked his players for a ‘big response’ following their 5-1 defeat to local rivals Grimsby Town at the weekend.

‘I was disappointed, the players were disappointed and I said to them I’ll look for a big response and I’ve certainly got that tonight.’ said Jackson.

The Lincoln boss went on to say: ‘We knew tonight was going to be a tough game and was going to be a tight game but we thoroughly deserved to win the game. I’m absolutely delighted for my players tonight.’

‘I thought there were a load of good performances’ said Jackson adding that ‘everybody played their part tonight in this performance, even the fans were fantastic.’

The Imps boss finished by saying: ‘It was a good response after a bad weekend and hopefully we’ve cheered a few people up tonight.’

The Lincoln fans were chuffed with the victory but their views on Wycombe followed a familiar pattern.

‘We’ve probably just seen the best team performance of the season and surely that must be the best performance from the crowd.’

‘For some reason there was a party atmosphere at Sincil Bank tonight. The relaxed atmosphere seemed to help the players as did the fans backing.’

‘The team played incisive attacking football from the start. We had at least four good chances in the first half and Kovacs’ miss had to be seen to be believed.’

‘Saturday we get thrashed by Grimsby who were sitting 2nd from bottom and tonight we beat Wycombe who were sitting 2nd from top.
We did well. Missed a few easy goals but overall beat Wycombe and kept a good clean sheet. Also thought the atmosphere was very good tonight.’

‘Good game, seemed to have more players playing in the right place. Midfield-four all had good games. Went to the game expecting nothing, but enjoyed it, still looked dodgy at times but cracking 3 points, with a good atmosphere in the 2nd half. Have to say no Oakes on the pitch made the difference for me.’

Jimmy Blee wrote:
‘Credit where it’s due. The players owed the fans one after Saturday, and gave us a good hard working honest performance and we deserved the victory.’

‘Cannot understand how Wycombe are in the top two. Tonight we seemed to pass the ball around as we pleased against them. They had no answers at all.’

‘I can only remember Burch making one save from the free kick. Their keeper made at least 3. They seemed very flat. I can’t understand how they’ve let so few goals in as they looked very dodgy at the back. Maybe they had an off night. 2,400 Imps made more noise than we have heard in ages. Both stands got behind the team big time. They were the quietest away fans this season, only heard them once. Cant believe they are 2nd they were very average.’

‘Wycombe looked dangerous from set pieces and Pittman did us for pace once or twice but other than that they didn’t threaten a great deal.’

‘We we’re the better team all match and could have been 3-0 up before Wycombe had their first chance on goal.’

‘Great atmosphere despite the low crowd. Wycombe looked distinctively average to say the least.’

‘The players were so up for it, working hard and battling for everything. The atmosphere was very good, hopefully the players will realise that when we’re given something to cheer about, we will. A great team performance. We were strangely comfortable, and Wycombe were very average. I don’t know whether they had an off day or we just made them look bad.’

theimps.tk wrote:
‘The visitors were surprisingly poor given their lofty position in the table, with their strikers never really looking capable of scoring.’

Luke Imp wrote:
‘How boring are Wycombe?! Strong defensively and poor in attack. We could have had another at the end but for a good save from their keeper.’

Soul destroying stuff after such a good start to the season.
