Following yesterday’s unexpected goal bonanza at Griffin Park which finished in a 3-3 draw between Brentford and Wycombe Wanderers, here are some thoughts on the game from Bees’ manager Andy Scott and a few of their fans.

Speaking to his club’s official website, Scott said he was happy with a share of the spoils after Sam Williams scored an 81st minute equaliser for the Bees.

‘When you score so late you have to be happy with a point,’ said Scott.

‘When you go ahead twice, you want to win the game but we knew they would be dangerous from set pieces.’

‘We were disappointed with the goals we conceded,’ he said, adding that he felt there was a push in the box before John Mousinho scored Wycombe’s second goal.

The Brentford boss felt his side ‘dominated the second half,’ even before Tommy Doherty’s sending off, but admitted: ‘If it had stayed at eleven against eleven, I would have been happy with a point.’

Talking about the large crowd yesterday afternoon, Scott Said: ‘There were more than 9,000 Brentford fans. They saw an entertaining game and I hope they come back.’

The Brentford fans were thrilled with the afternoon’s entertainment and most were happy to acknowledge Wycombe’s part in a great game. Surprisingly, some felt Doherty’s sending off was harsh but all were in agreement about John Akinde’s fine performance for the Chairboys.

‘Truly superb advertisement for lower league football. Everyone at GP this afternoon, no matter who they supported, thoroughly enjoyed themselves and could have had no complaints about ‘value for money’. Congratulations to all involved today.’

‘Great game of football, Wycombe’s third goal was worth paying for on it’s own.’

‘Great game. ‘White hot atmosphere’ from both fans – Good luck to Wycombe and see them in League One.’

‘Really enjoyable game. Akinde caused us all sorts of problems and should be a a real asset to Wycombe in the promotion push. Doherty’s sending off was harsh and I was surprised to see a straight red when a yellow really should have been given. Wycombe fans did credit to their team both in and outside the ground.’

‘Best game all season by a country mile. Great to see the faces of the Wycombe fans leaving the ground, like they knew the title is gone.’

‘Tommy Doherty got mugged off today and I care not one bit, he’s always at it and bullying refs and today it was he who was cheated.’

Sussexbee wrote:
‘What a great game of football between two teams who won’t be in this division next year. Everyone expected a 0-0 or a very tight affair but a very early goal and some horrible defending gave us a 3-3 thriller. The sending off helped us and their new striker from Bristol City is a right handful!’

‘Akinde was a beast, He was swatting off our defenders like flies and should cause havoc in this league.’

‘The sending off was right in front of me and I thought a yellow would have been sufficient and consistent with earlier decisions. Hunt had a bit of a naughty grin on his face when he came off after getting up, and would no doubt have been called a cheat by us if he’d been a Wycombe player.’

‘If they are supposed to be the second best team in this league, then we’ve got nothing to worry about.’

sonofabee wrote:
‘What a cracking game of football. Taylor has done very well to get Akinde and with him they probably will go on to get the automatic promotion slot I thought was slipping away. He’s the most dangerous, direct forward I’ve seen here this season.’

thanetbee wrote:
‘Their centre forward Akinde looked a different class to the rest of the players on show. What’s he doing at Wycombe?’

shepperton bee wrote:
‘Best two teams in the Division going toe to toe with our biggest league crowd for ages, what more can you want other than a win. Be very surprised if Wycombe don’t finish the season strongly and clinch automatic promotion. Peter Taylor knows what to do at this level and Akinde is a fantastic signing.’

Well, that’s 36 down and just 10 to go. Tune in next week for the Rochdale fans’ reaction to another vital game for the Chairboys.
